Our proud history
The Kyneton Netball Association (KNA) has been at the heart of local sport in the Macedon Ranges for over 30 years, providing opportunities for players of all ages to participate, develop, and connect through netball.
Early beginnings
While netball has been played in Kyneton for many decades—primarily through schools and local sporting clubs—the formation of the Kyneton Netball Association in the early 1990s marked an important turning point for the sport in the region.
The association was established to bring structure, consistency, and greater opportunity to local netball, creating a central hub for competition and development within the community.
Building a community competition
From its earliest days, KNA focused on creating inclusive and accessible competitions for both junior and senior players. Weekly competitions quickly became a staple of the local sporting calendar, supported by a passionate network of volunteers, families, and players.
As participation grew, the association expanded its offerings to include:
-
Junior development pathways
-
Structured competitions across multiple age groups
-
Opportunities for players of all skill levels
This period laid the foundation for what KNA is today—a strong, community-driven organisation.
Growth and development
Throughout the 2000s and 2010s, the association continued to evolve, aligning with Netball Victoria and adopting state-wide programs and standards. This included the introduction of NetSetGO, providing younger players with a fun and supportive introduction to the sport.
KNA’s commitment to development ensured that players in Kyneton had access to the same opportunities and pathways as those in larger metropolitan areas, while still maintaining its strong local identity.
Resilience and renewal
Like many community sporting organisations, KNA faced challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, with disruptions to competitions and participation. However, the association demonstrated resilience, rebuilding its competitions and re-engaging the community as sport returned.
KNA today
Today, the Kyneton Netball Association continues to thrive as a grassroots sporting organisation, offering junior competitions, development programs, and community events.
With more than three decades of history behind it, KNA remains committed to:
-
Encouraging participation at all levels
-
Supporting player development
-
Strengthening community connections through sport
As the association looks to the future, it continues to build on its proud history—ensuring netball remains a vibrant and inclusive part of the Kyneton community for generations to come.
Our dedicated committee

Dean Backman - President
Dean stepped into the role of President in 2026 - we're thrilled he's taken on this leadership. After coaching last year, he felt like a natural fit bringing integrity, energy, care, and a clear plan for the future of the club.
In Dean's words:
"Our 'one club' association is built on community, culture, and care. This year, we want to expand on a culture like no other in our region - one that supports our players, coaches, volunteers, and families, and one that continues to feel like home for every child who steps onto our courts"

Lauren Anglin - Vice President
Lauren is no stranger to the club - she's played a vital part on our committee for years, coached across multiple age groups, and quietly worked behind the scenes to invest in our kids development, skills and growth.
Her input has been central to the clubs momentum and she's stepped into this role to keep that culture thriving. With Lauren and Dean at the helm, we're in great hands.
Child Safety Policy
Our Association is a Child Safe Organisation. We commit to providing a safe environment for children in netball and we follow the principles and benchmarks Netball Victoria has in place.
Our Association agrees to comply with the Child Safety Standards through the Child Safety in Netball Code of Conduct and the Child Safety in Netball Policy.
